What Catholic Bishop Oversees The Church Of The Good Shepherd in Oshawa, Ontario?

Since the Church of the Good Shepherd in Oshawa is a parish of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, headquartered in Houston, Texas, our Bishop (or "Ordinary" in Catholic parlance) is Steven Lopes.

Of course it might seem peculiar that while we are located within the geographical limits of the Archdiocese of Toronto we should have a Bishop different than the Archdiocese. His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins is a Canadian Cardinal of the Catholic Church who is the tenth and current Archbishop of Toronto. Under the terms of the Ordinariate structure within the Catholic Church, the parishes of the Ordinariate are under the authority of their own Bishop, which in our case is the Houston based Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.

Bishop Steven Lopes visited our parish for the first time on March 4, 2017 and we shared a meal and fellowship hour with him following the Mass.

A humorous moment at table with Bishop Lopes. Father Tilley, our parish priest, pictured to the left.

We enjoyed immensely our time together and everyone had opportunity to engage with Bishop Lopes on a wide variety of topics and issues.

On an interesting discussion about liturgy

We were so blessed to have Bishop Lopes at Good Shepherd and anxiously await his next visit!
